No thanks, I’m just browsing…

Sometimes when I’m using Beyond TV at home, I have movie cravings. It’s hard to explain exactly what I’m in the mood for, but there is something deep down that is screaming, “Entertain me!

Before Beyond TV 4 was released, my cravings could only be satisfied by flipping through the program guide, or by searching for keywords in the search tool. Admittedly, these are great features, but with my short attention span, sometimes this would take too long.

Then Beyond TV 4 came out and everything changed. Now I can use the new “Browse by Category feature, and browse my local listings for sports, movies, and if I am in the right frame of mind, even educational listings. It’s a nice surprise to come home with a queue of movies ready to be watched at my convenience. I like to call if “NetFlix for the monetarily challenged.

I have a movie craving right now, but it looks like it will be satisfied after watching Mel Gibson blow things up in The Road Warrior tonight at 7:00!

The categories are too broad. I don’t want to browse ALL movies of a certain category.

What would be better is to add a themes mode that automatically records movies of a certain type. Like all movies recorded after 2005 or all movies starring Woody Allen. Not a search that only finds ones currently in the listing, but one that will find them and record them at any time whenever they occur.

ReplayTV had this feature, and competitors do as well. It would be nice to See Beyond TV add it.
